History

ERSA Global Group was established in 1905 and continues to be recognized as a worldwide market leader in supervision and analytical services. We supply quality inspection, supervision and analytical services for base metal ores and precious metal bearing concentrates to the mining industry and its associated traders on the loading and discharge of the material transported by ground, air or sea.

We also provide inspections services, sampling, analysis, certification and audits to the food and agricultural sectors. We bring a personal approach to the business providing accuracy, speed and concise communication throughout the inspection process.

ERSA Global was established in 1905 in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico by John Welling. At the young age of 22, John Welling rented a building that used to be the American Bank Company, and started representing the mines that shipped their material to the American Metals smelter (which eventually became the Met Mex Penoles smelter). That same year, he formed a partnership with an experienced assayer named George Bapty, and they opened the Sociedad of Wisner & Bapty located at Ramos Arizpe 413, Torreon, Coahuila Mexico.

ERSA Global survived and triumphed during the hardest time in Mexican history, the Mexican Revolution. In 1913, Pancho Villa rode into Torreon and forcibly took over part of the building where the lab was located. Because Pancho Villa’s people used the building as an “oficina de raya” or paymasters office, nothing was stolen or vandalized. When Pancho Villa got ready to leave Torreón, the laboratory remained in its original condition.

During the 1930´s the World War began and the demand for metals began to increase. As a result, so did mining activity. In 1934, Mr. Welling, was able to buy the office/lab building where they remained for the following 75 years. His trusted assistant Sr. Manuel Molleda worked with Mr. Welling for over thirty years.

In 1961, Phil Doerr, with previous experience at Asarco, retired from running the Peñoles’s Torreón Smelter. John Welling’s son, Mr. John Wisner, formed a partnership with Mr. Doerr and continued providing metallurgical and inspection services to the mining and processing companies.

In 1978, Mr. John Wisner’s daughter Kristin Ann and her husband, Thomas Jones, took over ERSA Global. The following year they joint ventured with an internationally acclaimed laboratory, Ledoux & Company, based in Teaneck, New Jersey.

Under the leadership of Mr. Jones, ERSA Global continued supplying quality inspection, supervision and analytical services to its clients, which lead to its expansion into Lima (Peru), Santiago (Chile) and Sao Paulo (Brazil). ERSA Global’s organic growth continued, opening offices as ERSA Global Europe In Belgium, ERSA Global Africa, in Johannesburg, Ersa Global India and ERSA Global China, a joint venture with Sinoway, in Tianajin China.

Today, the ERSA Global team consists of surveyors and inspectors that have extensive industry experience and uphold our rigorous work standards. Work quality is of the utmost importance and because we are a small privately held company, we provide tailored services that meet the needs of our clients. Please Contact Us for more information.
